The artist

Egle SIMKUTE, is a self-taught visual artist and photographer. Born in Lithuania in 1990, of a Lithuanian father and a Russian mother, she has lived in France since 1999. Egle SIMKUTE explores a photography that finds its place between the contemporary landscape and the intimate documentary. At first glance, the settings are related to different natures of places: urban places, places of passage, industrialised places, places that communicate between interior and exterior. But above all, urban spaces are draped in concrete and subdued by a soft, pinkish light. The aesthetics of the everyday feeds its photography. The triviality of everyday life and its ugliness are highlighted here, trash is the order of the day, poor materials, plastic, metal, sometimes filthy become lush, precious and sacred. Egle’s photography displays a poetry of memory and life in its most simple, fleeting and eternal form. The intimate is at the heart of the subject, time seems to have stopped, Egle captures the simple but precious moments that constitute instants of joy, moments of life that can be seized and elusive. Moments that belong only to her. Nevertheless, she aims to keep a part of mystery and to reveal her world with a beautiful modesty.
